Four ‘smugglers’ held with 41 gold bars in Benapole

BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested four alleged smugglers along with 41 gold bars worth around Tk 2 crore from Amrakhali border under Benapole Police Station on Sunday.

The arrestees are Reaj Mollah, 25, Anisur Rahman, 25, Sabuj Mredha, 21 and Tanfir Zaman, 18, hailing from Faridpur and Khulna districts.

Lt Col Selim Reza, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion said, tipped off, a BGB team stopped a Beanpole-bound bus at noon and recovered the gold bars worth Tk 2.11 crore after searching it.

The arrestees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after interrogation, he added.
