CHATTOGRAM: Chattogram Customs Authority seized 30 containers of cement imported under false declaration by ‘Pran Dairy Limited’ at Chattogram Port on Tuesday.
Sources in the customs said the company attempted to dodge revenue of over Tk 3 crore through importing the cement under declaration of high-density polyethylene (HDPE).Customs Joint Commissioner Sadhan Kumar Kundu said the company declared to import 510 tonnes of HDPE worth around $566,100 from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The consignment reached Chattogram Port on May 26. But during delivery, customs officials revealed cement of a Saudi Arabian brand inside the containers and suspended the delivery, he said.
After physical examination of the containers, a total of 10,200 sacks of cement having 50 kilogrammes in each were found, said the joint commissioner.
He said the duty for the HDPE is 32 percent while 91 percent for the cement.
Through the false declaration, the company attempted to dodge an amount of over Tk 3 crore, he said adding that case will be filed against the importer.
