Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists allegedly assaulted Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice-President Nurul Haque Nur at a park next to Gana Unnayan Library in Bogura town on Sunday.

The DUCSU VP went there to attend an iftar gathering organised by the local chapter of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad of which he is a central leader.

Some 25 to 30 people launched the attack around 5:00 pm when Nur and his followers were preparing for the iftar party.

At least five other members of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad were also hurt in the incident.

Rakibul Ahsan, a Bogura unit leader, said Nur and central joint convener of the quota reformist students’ platform Rasul were badly injured. They were taken to Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogura.

Rokaya Akter, a doctor at the hospital, said they treated Nur and three others.

Cameraperson of Jamuna Television Shahniaz Shaon was also assaulted, as the BCL men allegedly tried to snatch his camera when he was filming the incident.

BCL, however, has denied the allegation of attacks.
