NETRAKONA: Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has taken initiatives to dredge 155 kilometers of Kongsho and Vogai river from Mohonganj of Netrakona and Nalitabari of Sherpur District, reports BSS.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday inaugurated the dredging work at a programme here on Friday. BIWTA will carry out the dredging at a cost of Tk 134.64 crore, said a media release.Waresat Hossain Belal, MP, Manu Majumder, MP, and BIWTA Chairman Commodore M Mahbub Ul Islam, among others, were present at the programme.
Khalid Mahmud said the water way is environment friendly and can ensure low cost and comfortable journey within the country. The present government has planned to dredge 10,000 kilometers water way to revive the navigability for facilitating trade and commerce.
