In the wake of recent spate of rape, a parliamentary watchdog on Wednesday asked the government to scrap pornography sites to address the incidents of rape violence.

The parliamentary standing committee on home ministry also expressed serious concern as rape incidents marked a sharp rise in the country.

The committee came up with the recommendations during its meeting at Parliament Secretariat with its chairman Shamsul Haque Tuku in the chair.

Committee members, including Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Habibur Rahman, Faridul Haque Khan, Pir Fazlur Rahman and Nur Mohammad, attended the meeting.  The body asked the government to put the law enforcing agencies on alert in addressing the unwanted incidents.

A woman was killed after she was gang-raped and pushed off a moving bus on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab Highway on May 6.

The victim identified as Shahinur Akter Tania (23) was as a nurse at Ibn Sina Hospital in the capital. Emerging from the meeting, Tuku told reporters that the body also recommended the government to keep the law enforcing agencies on high alert to address any unwanted incident.

“We have asked the government for taking measures so that no untoward incident makes the government embarrassed,” he said.

“We have asked the government to run dope test on professionals of all walks of lives. We recommended the government for taking action on those who will be found positive in the dope test,” he said.
