400 mounds artificially ripened mango destroyed

A mobile court destroys 400 mounds of artificially-ripened mangoes at Jatrabari wholesale fruit market in the capital. Dhaka South City Corporation, Directorate of Agriculture, BSTI and RAB-10 jointly conducted the raid.

A mobile court on Wednesday destroyed about 400 maunds of mangoes and fined Tk 24 lakh to nine traders for selling mangoes earlier than the government fixed harvesting time.

Sarwar Alam, executive magistrate of Rapid Action Battalion conducted the drive at mango wholesale market at Jatrabari in the capital and found the mangoes from nine traders.

 He said the mangoes came to the market for sale before the harvesting time and the traders ripen those artificially which is a offense.

Those mangoes are harmful for human health, said the magistrate adding that they have destroyed all 400 mounds of mangoes from nine traders.

 The government has fixed mango harvesting time for Gobindavog and Gopalvog mango of Sathkhira from May 12.
