RANGPUR: Thousands of buyers are rushing to the markets and shopping places triggering record sales and business of Eid items in the city almost two weeks ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr festivity, reports BSS.
Leaders of business bodies said buyers are trying to complete their purchase of Eid items ahead of the holy festivity aiming at avoiding last moment unbearable rush at hot and humid weather in Eid shopping centres. As a result, Eid shopping has already reached at the peak now at bigger markets, shopping malls, complexes, roadside and makeshifts markets amid tight security measures.Senior-vice President of Rangpur Chamber of Commence and Industry (RCCI) Mostoba Hossain Ripon said selling already marked a record business following increase of incomes of common people. “The business places have worn festive looks with rushing men, women, adolescents, housewives, girls, boys, students and youths for buying items of own choice,” he said.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police control room sources said security measures and monitoring o the law and order situation have been tightened to enable common people marketing without untoward incidents in the city.
According to market sources, prices of clothes for males, females, babies and children are almost 30 to 40 percent higher this time than the previous year though the increased price has no impact on purchasing capacity of buyers.
Hundreds of Eid shoppers have been rushing daily to Super Market, Jahaz Company Shopping Complex, City Plaza, ‘Karupannya’, Moti Plaza, Salek Market, Jamal Market, Maya Exclusive Fashion House, ‘Adi Janata’, Bismillah Garments, Madina Garments, Golden Tower, ‘Rangan’, ‘Zila Parishad Biponi Bitan’, ‘Shah Amanat’, ‘Rajanigandha’, Jahaz Company Shopping Complex, City Plaza, ‘Karupannya’, Moti Plaza, Salek Market, Jamal Market, Station Market, Rajib Gandhi Market, Honumantola Market and other markets, shopping malls and centres in the city.
Talking to the agency on Tuesday, rushing buyers at different city markets said they were purchasing clothes and other Eid items for babies, children, youths, males and females at much higher prices this time than the last year.
Each of female three pieces is being sold at rates between Taka 1,200 and 20,000, sari between Taka 1,200 and 45,000, pant pieces between Taka 1,000 and 3,500, jeans pants between Taka 2,000 and 5,000 and shirt pieces between Taka 1,000 and 3,500.University students Mehedi Hassan Rafiul Islam, Aklima Begum and Putul Khatun at ‘Super Market’ said they already purchased their Eid clothes of own choice at 40 percent higher prices on an average this year compared to last year.
