Aggrieved Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men who have been deprived of getting posts in the BCL committee have called off their strike after receiving assurance that their demands will be fulfilled.

The assurance came during a meeting with senior Awami League (AL) leaders at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s office in Dhanmondi around 1:30 am on Monday.

On behalf of the angry BCL men, Saif Babu, former publicity secretary of BCL, confirmed the matter to the correspondent. AL Joint General Secretaries Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretaries Bahauddin Nasim and Mozammel Haque and Awami Swechchhasebak League General Secretary Molla Abu Kawsar were present at the meeting.

BCL President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and General Secretary Golam Rabbani also attended the meeting.

Saif Babu said, “We called off the demonstration, as our demands for dropping controversial leaders from the newly announced committee and including more competent men will be met soon.

“Apart from this, we demanded to punish the assailants who attacked us at the university’s Modhur Canteen.”

Making an apology for the Modhur Canteen attack, Golam Rabbani said, “We will expel four men in connection with the attack. If involvement of others is found, they will be dismissed too.”

On Sunday, the deprived BCL men allegedly came under attack from the organization’s general secretary and his followers.
