Farmers upset at low paddy prices in Moulvibazar

MOULVIBAZAR: Farmers of Hakaluki Haor (wetland) in Moulvibazar district have been counting about Tk 300 loss per maund of rice in the current Boro season due to fall in rice prices.

Accordingly, the some of farmers of deferent area of the Moulvibazar district are expressed their opinion as the bumper production of boro paddy in this season due to the favorable weather conditions and timely supply of necessary agri-inputs.

Anayet Miah, a farmer of Hakaluki Haor area in Kulaura upazila, said, “We are having a nice weather. We would have a great harvest.

Abdul Karim, a farmer of Shabazpure area of Bhorlrkha upazila said, I am happy because the good production. But this year the price rate of boro paddy is becoming to very low in local market.

Farmers said they have been counting huge losses as they are not getting a fair price in this year. Government paddy parches target is insufficient. Mill owners and wholesalers are buying maximum paddy at a low price produced in the haor areas.
