6 killed in Bagerhat road crash

At least six people were killed and nine others injured as a bus crashed into a roadside tree in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district on Saturday morning.

Two of the deceased were identified as Hekmat 50, and Farhad, 50.

Robiul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bagerhat highway police, said the accident took place in Kakdanga area of the upazila around 9:00 am as a Mollarhat-bound bus coming from Rupsha crashed into a roadside tree after its driver lost control over steering, leaving five people dead on the spot and 10 others injured.

The injured were taken to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex and Khulna Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Of the injured, one died at Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex, the OC said.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed and five others were injured as a car of a ride-sharing service carrying them collided head-on with a private car at Bata Signal intersection on Elephant Road in the capital on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Fulbibi, 55, wife of Abul Kalam, hailing from Barishal.

Kazi Shakil, a sub-inspector at New Market police station, said the car of the ride-sharing service carrying six people overturned on the road around 7:30am after it collided with a private car, leaving all of six passengers injured.

They were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment where on-duty doctors declared Fulbibi dead.

The entire family came to Dhaka from Barishal for treatment of Fulbibi’s husband Abul Kalam. The accident occurred when the family members were proceeding towards Dhanmondi from Sadarghat area.
