Police arrested 65 members of ‘doping gang’ from different parts of the capital on Friday.
Serious Crime Investigation Division and North, South, East and West divisions of Detective Branch of police arrested them.DMP joint commissioner (Detective) Mahbub Alam briefed newsmen of the arrests at its media centre on Saturday.
Serious Crime Investigation Division in special drives arrested 39 members of doping gang from the city’s New Market area.
The arrestees are Abdus Salam Meer, Mohammad Falan, Monir Hossain, Sakib Hossain, Iqbal Hossain, Afzal Hossain Arif, Monir Hossain, Mohammad Sani, Mohammad Jewel, Mizanur Rahman, Shameem, Badal Dewan, Mohammad Selim, Asif-ul-Rentu, Shah Alam, Shahin, Abdur Rahman, Rakib, Titu, Ashraf, Russell, Mohammad Hossain, Mohammad Sentu Mandal, Ripon Shikder, Hridoy Mia, Mohammad Munna, Sentu Majhi, Ashraful, Mohammad Rezaul, Jahangir Hossain, Robin Ahmed Raaj, Mohammad Babu, Masud Alam, Saiful Islam, Mohammad Sumon, Mohammad Raaj, Mohammad Razu, Fazle Rabbi and Mohammad Sabuj.
DB North nabbed 11 members of the racket from Fakirapool and Kuril Biswa Road bus stand area.
The arrestees are Shafikul Islam, Mohammad Alam, Ismail Hossain Chowdhury, Delwar Hossain, Nure Alam, Shaheed Ali, Rubel Howlader, Babu Akhanda, Abdul Motaleb, Rubel Mia and Rahmat Ali.
DB East arrested four members of the notorious gang from Joy Kali temple area in Wari. The arrestees are Jahed, Riaz, Jasim Uddin and Rubel.DB South nabbed seven members of ‘doping gang’ from Gulistan area. The arrestees are Kawsar Mahmud Kiron, Mohammad Azad, Jalil Fakir, Mainuddin Chisti, Mohammad Ripon, Mohammad Ratan and Anik Hasan Shanto.
DB West arrested five members of doping racket from Uttara area. They are Jakir alias Faisal, Masud Rana, Manik, Nurjahan and Shrabani.
Police recovered 144 pieces of Noctin (5mg) and Nitrazepam (5mg), 18 pieces of Lexotanil (3mg), 148 pieces of Epitra (2mg), 10 pieces of Sedil, 40 pieces of Rivotrl (2mg) and Pase (2mg), Disopan, 20 pieces of Clonazepam (2mg), Nix, Rubbing Balm and Dormicum (7.5 mg), 30 pieces of Milam (7.5 mg), drug-mixed juice and dates, seven stolen mobile sets and a car from their possession.
During primary interrogation, the DMP joint commissioner said, “The arrestees confessed to police that that they rob valuables chasing people at different shopping malls, bus stands, Sadarghat and Railway stations ahead of Eid.”
They develop relationship with targeted persons and entertain them with sedative drug-mixed food and juice before snatching away their cash and valuables.
In some cases, they collect ransom from families and relatives of the victims.
Firstly, they make victims unconscious by feeding them sedative drug-mixed food or juice to take their mobile sets. Later, they reach the victims’ family members or relatives over phone asking them for ransom telling their dear and near ones are held hostages.
After getting money through bKash, they switch off the mobile sets.
“Police have launched special drives to check the crime from the first day of Ramadan,” the DMP official said.
