Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan said on Friday that pace bowler Taskin Ahmed will be warming the reserve bench during the ICC World Cup 2019.
According to BCB President, they are not interested to make any changes in the 15-member World Cup squad while they selected a pool of players as probable World Cup replacements so that they can fill the spot during the tournament if it is required due to injury. The announcement cleared the air regarding the inclusion of Taskin in the World Cup as it was rumored that he would be included in the last minute in place of Abu Jayed Rahi.
Jayed, who was the surprise inclusion in the Bangladesh’s 15-member World Cup squad as he was picked despite not playing any ODI’s until then grabbed five wickets in only his second game against Ireland to make sure his place is not at risk.
“We are not going to make any changes in the World Cup squad unless it is mandated by injury,” Nazmul told reporters during an iftaar party hosted by BCB at a local hotel on Friday.
“We have made a list of players who will be our probable replacement in the World Cup and we have selected it according to each position,” he said.
“For example now our pace unit is comprised of Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin and Mashrafe Mortaza while Ab Jayed Rahi is also there as the fifth bowler,” he said.
“We have kept Taskin in the reserve bench and if anyone from them (pace unit) gets injured he (Taskin) will replace him,” he concluded.
