Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has cancelled the license of two more products of two companies and suspended license of 25 food products of different companies after detecting the food items below the standard of the government agency.

The license of Pure Hathazari Maricher Gura of SS Consumer Products (Chattogram) and Kiran Lachchha Seemai of Messers Kiran Products (Naogaon) were cancelled, according to a statement issued by BSTI.

The products are among 52 food items that have been found substandard by BSTI.

The BSTI also suspended food products of different companies, including Baghabari Special Ghee, Modhumati and Madina salt.

The BSTI asked the producers of 27 items to recall their products from markets, stop production, marketing and retail sale until licenses of the products are cleared after improvement of their standard. Storing and commercial advertisement of the products have also been prohibited.

On Tuesday, BSTI cancelled the license of seven products and suspended the license of 18 food products of different companies for the same fault.

The BSTI recently collected 406 samples of food items from the markets from across the country and tested those at its laboratory. It has detected that 52 food items were below the standard.

Later, the government agency served a show-cause notice to the companies of 52 brands.

The BSTI has taken the steps as the companies did not respond to the notice issued by the government agency.

The High Court has already banned the 52 products barring the production of the impugned items until the BSTI standards are met and ordered that the products be removed from stores and destroyed immediately.
