BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday left Dhaka for Bangkok for medical treatment.

The BNP leader along with his wife Rahat Ara Begum left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines around 11:20 am, BNP sources said. The BNP secretary general will receive treatment at Bumrungrad International Hospital, sources added.

He is suffering from various complications including problems in his internal carotid artery.

Mirza Fakhrul is scheduled to return home on May 20.

On February 4, the BNP leader left Dhaka for Singapore to receive treatment at National University Hospital.

The Supreme Court in 2015 granted him bail for treatment abroad for the same problems when he was in jail.
