The trial proceedings of 15 graft cases, including Niko and Gatco, filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and others will be held at a makeshift court set up in Keraniganj Central Jail in Dhaka.

A gazette notification issued by the law ministry on Sunday said the cases were shifted to the temporary court at building-2 in front of the central jail over security reasons.

The other cases are Boropukuria graft case, eight cases of sabotage lodged with the capital’s Darus Salam Police Station, bus torching case filed with

Jatrabari Police Station and three defamation cases.

Earlier, the trial proceedings against Khaleda were held in many cases, including Niko, Gatco and Boropukuria graft cases, at a makeshift court set up inside the Old Dhaka Central Jail at Nazimuddin Road in the capital.

Khaleda has now been undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) under jail custody since April 1.

The BNP chief was in jail after she was convicted of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8, 2018. She was later sentenced to seven-year in jail in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
