Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Sunday said the governing Awami League has engaged in taking away people’s rights.

“Common people are anxious about the blood festival which is going on in the guise of development by Awami League. Awami League has now become a part of the Mafia,” he said. The BNP leader came up with the statements at a press conference at its central office in Nayapaltan of the capital. “Awami League could not come out of its mentality of one-party ruling. That’s the reason why social, political and financial justice has been destroyed in their hand. Forced disappearance, killing and abduction are their business,” Rizvi said.

He said the Awami League intends to ‘erase the concept of universal trend of democracy and fair election from the people’s mind’. Rizvi alleged that the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been kept in prison in ‘false case and obstacles are also being placed in the way of getting bail’.
