Robert Chatterson Dickson, the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, has appealed to the international community to work together for the safe repatriation of Rohingyas to their homes in Myanmar as they were a security concern for all.
“Rohingya crisis is one of the world’s major problems,” he said while briefing the media at a hotel in Barishal at the end of his two-day visit to the country’s southern city.“Rohingyas are not only a problem for Bangladesh, but also poses a threat to global security,” he was quoted as saying.
Rohingya issues have been discussed at the United Nations Security Council and the international community have to work together to repatriate them, said the British envoy.
Speaking of politics in Bangladesh, Dickson said the Bangladesh government should give more space to opposition parties to express their views for a strong democracy.
The mass media should also be allowed to exercise their full freedom, he added.
