Kokrajhar: With resentment brewing among a section of people in Kokrajhar district of Assam over “indiscriminate” notices being served to them by National Register of Citizens (NRC) authorities, the Congress has submitted a memorandum to the District Registrar of Citizen’s Registration, seeking suspension of the “arbitrary” practice, reports NDTV.

In its memorandum, the district Congress committee alleged that minorities were being harassed even after due verification of their documents during the preparation of the complete draft, published last year.

The NRC aims to separate “genuine” citizens from “illegal immigrants”. The complete draft of the register, published in July, 2018, had excluded 40.07 lakh names out of the 3.29 crore applicants.
