The Rural Electrification Board (REB) has incurred a loss of Tk 120 million as electricity transformers, power lines and poles were damaged as cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ razed through the coastal and north and north-eastern areas on Saturday.
We have incurred a loss of Tk 120 million due to ‘Fani’, REB chairman Moin Uddin told the daily sun.He said a total of 670 electric poles, 790 distribution transformers, 5,791 meters and 10,358 electric distribution wires in different areas damaged severely.
“Despite loss, the REB able to resume electricity supply in 99 percent areas,” claimed the REB chairman.
Around 25 percent people in rural areas including the costal and river belts are out of power as electricity poles have severely been damaged due to the cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ that swept over the country Friday last.
Besides, the power generation has come down over one third to 3500mw on Friday due to the cyclone, power division chief coordinator AKM Humayun Kabir said.
But, the electricity generation jumped onto around 10,000mn on Sunday, the official added.
