Festival: A Soulful Experience

Over the centuries, Britain has developed its own distinct forms of cooking that is immensely popular throughout the world. Fortunately, you can get a taste of the royal British cuisines right here in Dhaka! Le Méridien Dhaka has arranged a week-long festival titled ‘The Great British Food Festival’ that was kicked off yesterday. Guests can get the authentic taste of the Great Britain right here at Le Méridien Dhaka and enjoy the fantastic food and wonderful ambience with their loved ones. The festival will continue till May 4, 2019. 

On this occasion, Constantinos S. Gavriel, General Manager, Le Méridien Dhaka, said, “British dishes portray the sumptuousness of the cuisines as well as the heritage of the royal state. The festival will create a great opportunity for city dwellers to enjoy the authentic taste of British cuisine.”

There is something for everyone here at the British food fest. With a series of delicious foods like mini classic prawn cocktails, seared tuna bloody Mary’s celery salt, cullen skink soup with chive chantilly and spring onion and parsley oil, deep fried fish and chips with tartare sauce and fresh lemon and scotch quail eggs with parsley remoulade, you are definitely not going to miss out anything from the food heaven of Britain. The main course section is sure to unlock the inner foodie in everyone. The Irish stew is so serene and sublime; one can understand why British food is also known as comfort food at times. The unique pair of bangers and mash is included here that consists of mashed potato and sausages (bangers).The simple and harmonious taste can make your soul feel happier. This dish focuses mainly on the taste. The kidney pie has delightfully made its presence in the menu. For those who love seafood, it’s a great place to be. The smoked salmon is just wonderful and comes in many varieties. There is a sushi bar for the foodies who would love to have a bite of this delicacy. There is also a section for roast corner where the chef serves roasted leg of lamb, beef rib, carrot and potato fondants, horseradish and mustards.

 

Austen Reid, Executive Chef, Le Méridien Dhaka, said, “We were thinking about new concepts when everyone told me why not represent the food from where I come from, that is Great Britain? Everyone thought it to be a wonderful idea. At first, there was some curiosity on whether local people would love the idea or not since British food is quite different from local food here. Over here a lot of chili, masala or spices are used but the British food is lighter. The roast beef is an example. We cook it slowly. We use herbs such as bay leaves, rosemary, thyme, etc. as opposed to spices. The spices are softer and more sublime. The cuisines of both the countries cannot be compared and we hoped it would be a great experience to taste food from the Great Britain here in Dhaka besides the local food. We are extremely pleased that everyone liked the idea and loved the tastes. We are getting great feedback from the guests.”

 

For those who have sweet tooth, the dessert section is amply loaded. Cranachan, earl grey tea crème brulee, sticky toffee pudding, bakewell tart, and chocolate bread and butter pudding are just a few names. The creamy traditional pavlova melts in the mouth with its revitalizing tastes while the ecclefechan tart topped with a cherry will make you crave for more. For those who are not satiated with just the sweet taste and want more, lemon meringue tart is just perfect. It’s sweet, tangy, flavorful and will make you fall in love with it.

Since the food fest will last only for a few days, it’s an experience you do not want to miss. The flavours, visuals and music altogether are sure to make this an extremely royal and unforgettable experience.
