Ctg transport strike called off

CHATTOGRAM:  Organisations of transport workers called off the 24-hour strike enforced protesting killing of a bus driver on Thursday afternoon.  

They enforced the strike on 87 routes to and from Chattogram since 6:00pm on Wednesday.

The workers’ organisations held a joint meeting at around 11:00am on Thursday and took the decision for withdrawing the strike, said Eastern Zone Road Transport Workers Federation President Mrinal Chowdhury. 

The decision was taken following assurance from the administration of taking action against the responsible persons, he said.

However, decision regarding the preannounced 24-hour strike from Sunday morning will be taken later, said the workers’ leader.

Mentionable, Driver Jalal Uddin, 50, of Shymoli Paribahan was beaten to death by a group of people on Monday night.
