‘Govt to increase subsidy on agro-machinery’

Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque visits a stall at the 3-day National Agriculture Machinery Fair 2019 at the auditorium of Krishibid Institution Bangladesh at Khamar Bari in the capital on Thursday.

Agriculture Minister Dr Md. Abdur Razzaque on Thursday said the government will increase subsidy on agriculture machinery with a view to improving the production capacity of agriculture.

“Agriculture mechanization is very important to make agriculture profitable and competitive,” said the minister while speaking at a seminar titled “Achievement, problem and possibility of Bangladesh’s Agriculture Machanization” at Krishibid Institute at Kahamarbari in the city on Thursday.

The seminar was part of the 3-day National Agriculture Machinery Fair 2019 held at the auditorium of Krishibid Institute at Kahamarbari. The theme of the fair is ‘mechanization will build modern and profitable agriculture’.

Earlier, Dr Abdur Razzaque inaugurated the three-day national agriculture machinery fair-2019 and visited the stall. A total 27 stall and three pavilion of them eight government and 21 private organization took part in the fair at KIB premises with local and foreign machineries.

“Agricultural innovations and farm equipments need to be disseminated urgently to the farmers to reduce the production cost and make agriculture a profitable profession,” said the minister said terming mechanization is an important tool for profitable and competitive agriculture.

He said the government is providing subsidy on agric machinery and will take all-out effort and provide all necessary supports like subsidy to enhance the pace of agricultural mechanization.

Development of agriculture is very important but media focus on agricultural innovation is very scanty. We need adequate assistance from journalists which also help disseminate knowledge development in agriculture, said Abdur Razzaque. The minister said, “All types of farm machineries like rice harvester, wider, ripper and many more have been displayed in the fair so that people can have an idea about their imprtance.”

Speaking as a special guest Md. Nasiruzzaman secretary of Ministry of Agriculture said the government is going to formulate an Agricultre Machinery policy soon. He also said the government will provide around 70 percent subsidy on power tiller if it is equipped with three different devices like tiller, transplanter and ripper.
