Thailand keen to explore opportunities with icddr,b

Ambassador-designate of Thailand to Bangladesh Arunrung Phothong Humphreys has expressed her interest in exploring new partnership opportunities with International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b).

She expressed her interest during a visit to the icddr,b in Mohakhali of the capital on Wednesday. During her visit she was accompanied by second secretary of the Thai Embassy Pawornwat Simaskul and Kalthira Koompirochana, said a press release.

During the visit, Arunrung Phothong also learnt about the icddr,b’s five decades of research, innovation, and humanitarian efforts, which include intervention in the Rohingya (Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals – FDMN) camps, and in the ongoing diarrhoeal disease outbreak in Dhaka.

Ambassador Phothong was welcomed by icddr,b’s Executive Director and the winner of the Prince Mahidol Award 2018 (Public Health) Professor John D Clemens and icddr,b’s senior leadership team.

The Thai envoy was briefed about icddr,b and its emergency humanitarian response in the Rohingya camps as well as the long partnership between Thailand and icddr,b, which includes sharing of scientific knowledge and innovation.
