55 structures demolished on Turag banks

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Wednesday pulled down 55 more illegal structures on the banks of the River Turag under Tongi Model Police station in Gazipur as part of its ongoing drive against the illegal establishments along the Buriganga and the Turag rivers.

Executive Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman led the drive while BIWTA Joint Director AKM Arif Uddin was present. On the 32nd day of the drive, BIWTA knocked down one five-storey building, one four-storey building and 17 semi-concrete structures.

Besides, 36 tin-roofed structures were also bulldozed in the drive.

The BIWTA also recovered one acre of land of the river which had been occupied by some grabbers.
