113 structures on Turag banks removed

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Tuesday knocked down 113 illegal structures on the banks of the River Turag under Turag Police Station and Tongi Police Station in Gazipur.

Executive magistrate Mostafizur Rahman led the drive while BIWTA joint director AKM Arif Uddin was present.

On the 31st day of the drive to free the Buriganga and the Turag River from illegal encroachment, BIWTA bulldozed two five-storied , four four-storied, six three-storied, eight two-storied and six one-storied buildings. It also pulled down 12 semi-concrete buildings and 73 other structures. 

Apart from that, two boundary walls were torn down and three sand businessmen were evicted.
