An elder brother along with his associates kidnapped his own younger brother for Tk 60 lakh ransom in Narayanganj on Wednesday night.

They had also planned to kill the victim Fahad and throw his body into the river Shitolakkhaya in Munshiganj if they failed to get the ransom, police said.

But the blueprint failed as they were arrested before committing the crime.

Police arrested the kidnapper brother Maruf Jamil and his two associates—- Sijan alias Mohsin and Sheikh Sohan from Munshiganj on Thursday night.

Police also rescued the abducted Fahad Jamil, a student of class-seven of Narayanganj High school and College, from Munshiganj launch terminal area.

Narayanganj Sadar thana Inspector MIzanur Rahman said that Maruf and his two associates kidnapped Fahad Jamil when he was on his way to home in Narayanganj on Wednesday.

They took Fahad to Munshiganj. Confining him to an unknown place, they demanded Tk 60 lakh to his father Monir Hossain, a resident of Bhuyanpara in Narayan.

“Send Tk 60 lakh for his release, otherwise we will kill him,” the abductors threatened. They also asked his family members not to inform the matter to the police.

After kidnapping Fahad, Marud over the mobile phone demanded Tk 60 lakh from his father as ransom.

Maruf acknowledged this to the police and his parents and other relatives at Narayanganj Sadar police station on Friday, police said. The two other arrestees gave their confessional statements to the police.

They told the police that Maruf made the blueprint to kidnap his brother for ransom.

The arrestees are now facing the police remand, police said.
