CHATTOGRAM: Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman rehabilitated the self-declared killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through appointing them in embassies.

Besides, the anti-liberation forces were also made ministers and awarded with other facilities, he said.

Minister Mozammel came up with the remarks at an introductory meeting of the newly-elected executive committee of ‘Ekattorer Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee,’ Chattogram district unit at Chattogram Circuit House on Friday.

The minister alleged that former military ruler Ziaur Rahman issued ‘Indemnity Ordinance’ to stop trial for the killing of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“Practice of the religious-based politics was started through throwing off the 1972’s constitution and providing citizenship to Jamaat Ameer Ghulam Azam,” he said.

Many great leaders from Chattogram were organisers of the Liberation War and close aides of Bangabandhu, said the minister.

He also recalled the contribution of Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam who played an imperative role in forming ‘Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee’ when the name of Awami League (AL) was informally banned.

Jahanara Imam was vocal with the demand for trial of the war criminals, said Mozammel.

Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as successful successor of Bangabandhu, he said the premier knows better about everything.

The organisation Central Joint General Secretary and Chattogram Divisional Coordinator Shawkat Bangali presided over the meeting while the new committee President Engineer Delwar Majumder, General Secretary Rekha Alam Chowdhury, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Gabeshana Trust Chairman Dr Mahfuzur Rahman and South district AL General Secretary Mafizur Rahman addressed it among others.
