Two suspected criminals, including an arms trader, were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ in Gazipur and Bogura in the early hours of Friday.
In Gazipur, a suspected arms trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Salna area.However, the identity of the deceased could not be known immediately after the incident.
“Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area around 2:30am,” said RAB-1 company commander Lt Commander Abdullah Al-Mamun.
Sensing presence of law enforcers, the gang members open fire on them, prompting them to retaliate triggering a ‘gunfight’.
A member of the gang sustained grievous injuries in the ‘gunfight’. Two members of RAB too sustained injuries.
Later, the injured member of the gang was taken to Shaheed Tazuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
The law enforcers recovered a pistol and ammunition from the spot.In Bogura, another ‘outlaw’ was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two rival gangs of ‘criminals’ in Dhundar Bridge area of Sadar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Rashid Anam.
“The two gangs of ‘criminals’ exchanged gunfire in the area around 1:30pm,” said Sanatan Chakraborty, Bogura additional superintendent of police (ASP).
On information, a police team went to the spot and found Rashid lying on the ground with bullet injuries.
Later, Rashed was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and ammunition from the spot. The dead is a listed criminal and there are several cases filed against him with different police stations, the ASP informed.
