The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Friday arrested the president of Sonagazi Upazila unit of Awami League, Ruhul Amin, over Feni madrasa student Nusrat murder.

A PBI team caught him from Takia Bazar of the upazila in the afternoon following statements of several accused about his involvement with the murder.

Taking Nusrat’s ‘killer’ Kamrunnahar Moni with them, the PBI team also went to the killing spot and the veil shop at Manik Mia Plaza from where she bought three veils for three of her cohorts.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) started an investigation to find out the financier of Feni madrasa student Nusrat murder.

Sharmeen Jahan, special additional superintendent of police (CID), confirmed this to the daily sun on Friday.

“We have got an allegation that money was transacted to commit the crime. The CID will investigate the matter. If it is true, the financer will be brought to book,” she said.

On April 6, five male and female students of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa set Nusrat on fire on the rooftop of the madrasa for her refusal to withdraw the case filed against the madrasa principal, Siraj-ud-Daula.

After fighting for life for five days, she succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Meantime, the authorities of Islamic Arabic University which supervises all Fazil and Kamil-level madrasas in Bangladesh, have dissolved the governing committee of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa.

“Islamic Arabic University authorities have sent a letter scrapping the panel on Wednesday,” Feni DC Md Wahiduzaman said.

“A process of formation of a new committee headed by an additional district magistrate is underway,” he said.
