Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on Friday said they have taken necessary initiatives to reconstitute the party for building up its organisational strength.

“The party has to be rebuilt as a new and stronger one by reorganising its grass-roots level committees,” she said.

The Awami League chef was giving an introductory speech at a joint meeting at the party headquarters on Bangabandhu Avenue at Gulistan in the capital on Friday.

AL Central Working Committee and Advisory Council attended the party with AL chief Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The party chief said eight divisional committees have been outlined to build up the strength of the party.

The divisional committees will oversee the grass root activities of the party across the country, she added.

The committees were formed, including advisory council members, presidium members and ALCWC members.

The premier also opined that popularity of Awami League has soared as the party has achieved faith of the people after assuming power to rule the country.

“Usually popularity of ruling party declines, but in our case it is increasing,” she said.

People cast their votes in favour of Awami League in the last national election due to party’s increasing popularity, she said.

People including farmers, labourers, teachers, students, youths, and particularly the first time voters voted to re-elect Awami League to serve them for another term, she also said.

Referring to miserable condition of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Sheikh Hasina said such parties are like parasite, as military dictator formed it after capturing power illegally.

About elebration of ‘Mujib Year’, the government announced March 17, 2020 to March 17, 2021 as Mujib Year to celebrate Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary, Sheikh Hasina said that the occasion will be celebrated extensively from party level to national level from next year.

AL leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, HT Imam, Gowher Rizvi, Mosharraf Hossain, Matia Chowdhury, Mohammed Nasim, Pijush Kanti Bhattacharya, Abdur Razzaque, Faruk Khan, Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Dipu Moni and Abdur Rahman, among others, were present at the meeting.
