The investigation team of Police Headquarters said on Thursday that setting fire to Nusrat Jahan Rafi might have been averted if police, local administration and the madrasa committee took proper action against her sexual harassment.

Deputy Inspector General (media) of Police Sheikh Muhammad Ruhul Amin, chief of the five-member team, made the remarks while talking to journalists during their visit to the place of occurrence in Feni.

Replying to a query, he said that the team was investigating the role of former Sonagazi Model Police Station officer-in-charge Moazzem Hossain.

About Police Super Jahangir Alam’s alleged negligence of duty, Ruhul Amin said that their investigation would dig out everything.

On April 6, five students of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasa set Nusart on fire as she refused to withdraw a case filed against principal Siraj-ud-Daula on charges of harassing her.

Nusrat lost the battle for life while undergoing treatment of burn injures at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.
