Technology entrepreneurs and business leaders urged the government to make the tax certification process easy so that local entities can get benefit of tax exemption policy without hassles.

Leaders of various trade bodies also urged the government to give priority on local information technology-enabled services (ITeS) in the upcoming budget so that the public sector can use their services easily.

Industry leaders, especially Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and Bangladesh Computer Shamity (BCS), put forward the demands when they met the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan recently.

The BASIS placed a 22-point recommendation to the National Board of Revenue recently to develop the burgeoning IT sector in the line with government vision of developing the Digital Bangladesh.

The trade body leaders also emphasised on introducing special code for ITeS sector in taxation policy. BASIS Vice President Mushfiqur Rahman presented the budget proposal to NBR Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.

“For ITES companies’ corporate taxes have been exempted up to 2024. But collecting tax exemption certificate companies have to face a lot of difficulties and it takes up to 2-3 months to get the certificate,” Mushfiqur Rahman told the Daily Sun.

He requested the NBR for easing the certification process so that business community can easily enjoy tax exemption facilities provided by the government.

BASIS proposed the NBR for regulating the digital marketing payment system and payment channel in a fluid way.  NBR Chairman listened to BASIS proposals carefully and assured them of taking measures to solve the problem

Meeting attendees also claimed the NBR chairman agreed on the issue of implementing digital marketing payment policy. He assured that the NBR will go through the proposal and after necessary vetting they will implement the policy.
