Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan on Wednesday said the formation of the provisional government of Bangladesh in 1971 was the first step for attaining independence, reports BSS.

“The historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu and the formation of the Mujibnagar government on April 17 in 1971 were very much important for attaining independence. The formation of the provisional government was the first step for independence,” he told a discussion at Jatiya Press Club in the city.

Bangabandhu Academy organised the discussion marking the historic Mujibnagar Day with its President Md Nazmul Haque in the chair. Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member Mozaffar Hossain Paltu addressed it as the special guest, said a press release.

Bangladesh is the only country where the history of the Liberation War needs to be narrated repeatedly as the history of the war was distorted many times, Sujan said, adding those, who opposed the Liberation War, made the Liberation War controversial after assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Secretary General of Jatiya Muktijoddha Coordination Committee Shafiqul Bahar Majumder Tipu, Awami League leader MA Karim and Bangabandhu Academy General Secretary Humayun Kabir Miz addressed the discussion, among others.
