A Feni court placed a madrasa student, Kamrun Nahar Moni, on a five-day remand on Wednesday hours after she was arrested in connection with the sensational Nusrat murder.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Sharafuddin granted the five-day remand after the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) produced her before the court around 12:00 noon seeking a 10-day remand prayer.

PBI inspector Md Shah Alam said Moni, arrested from a village in Feni on Tuesday night, was among the five who directly took part in the killing,

In another development, one more suspect -- Md Shariful Islam alias Sharif -- was arrested from Kamrangirchar in the capital on the same night for his alleged involvement with the incident.

The PBI made the arrest following an information revealed by Nuruddin and Shahdat Hosen Shamim, who were arrested earlier and confessed to their involvement with the killing during interrogation, police said.

With the arrests, 16 people were arrested in this connection.

Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi lost her battle for life last week, five days after she was set afire at a madrasa in Feni, an incident that touched off outrage all over the country.

On April 6, a group of five unidentified persons poured kerosene on the 18-year-old girl and set her afire allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case against the principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa over sexual assault on her late last month.

Two of the main accused, Nur Uddin and Shahadat Hossain Shamim, already gave their confessional statements before the court under section 164 of CRPC on Sunday.

They mentioned the names of Kamrun Nahar Moni and Shariful Islam.
