Architecture festival held at CUET

Teachers and students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) take out a procession on Friday marking the two-day architecture festival. — SUN PHOTO

A two-day architecture festival was celebrated at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).

Architecture department of the university organised the festival on the university campus.

A colourful procession led by the university Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) and the Architecture and Planning faculty Dean Professor Dr Md Saiful Islam was brought out from in front of the department on the first day on Friday.

Teachers, students, officials and employees of the university took part in the procession.

Besides, a discussion was also organised marking the festival.

Professor Saiful was the chief guest at the discussion while Student Welfare Affair Director Professor Md Mohammad Mashiul Hoque and the programme organising committee Convenor and the department Assistant Professor Kanu Kumar Das were present as the special guests.

Architect Abdullah Al Masum and outgoing batch student SM Ahsanullah Shuvo addressed the discussion among others.

Four former chairmen of the department including Professor Dr Md Rabiul Alam, Professor Dr Md Moinul Islam, Sultan Mahmud Faruk and Mohammad Nazmul Latif Sohel were honoured at the programme. 

Earlier, a competition titled ‘Design of Spiritual Space’ with 65 designs of the students from different public and private universities was held.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) became champion in the competition while CUET secured second position and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology third position.

A seminar on ‘Indoor Environment Simulation’ was also held on the Friday afternoon. CUET Architecture department Lecturer Biplob Kanti Das, Architects Sohel Md Sakur, Abdullah Al Masum and India’s Jadavpur University Architecture department Associate Professor Dr Mainak Ghosh presented articles at the seminar.

Moreover, a seminar on ‘Design Thinking and Creativity of Environmental Perception in Housing/Human Settlements’ was also held on the second day of the festival.

Professor Mainak Ghosh presented key-note paper at the seminar.

Berger Paints was the title sponsor of the event while NGS Cement Limited assisted it.
