Preparations go on to celebrate Pahela Baishakh at IU

KUSHTIA: Preparations in full swing to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year at IU on Sunday with much fanfare, festivity and great enthusiasm.

At Islamic University in Kushtia, bright colors and festivities has always adorned the Bengali New Year. It’s been a long standing tradition, to celebrate the day with students, faculties, officers, and the management alike. Prof Harun-Ur-Rashid Ashkari after joining as vice-chancellor of the University in 2016, added new dimensions. For the first time, he started arranging Baishakhi Mela on the campus and though this year was no different, it still had something new.

The Islamic University authorities are organising a 3-day Baishakhi Mela (fair) fair. This year, the fair, will have 150 stalls offering different traditional products like handicrafts, hand-woven fabrics, jute-goods and Jamdani saris, said IU syndicate member and former proctor M Mahbubar Rahman.

Besides, there will be several folk cultural events at different times in the fair that will remain open for public from 9.00am to 8.00 pm till April 16.
