An Initiative Worth Praising

After the success of ‘Mogoj Dholai’, Project Pothchola, one of the progressive ventures launched by BANDHU Foundation, organized the second season of their book reading event styled ‘Mogoj Dholai 2.0’, powered by FSIB (First Security Islami Bank LTD.), on Saturday, 6 April, 2019 on the premises of Bangladesh Shishu Academy.

Approximately two weeks before the event, the children were provided with four books named Bottle Bhoot, Bigyani Anik Lumba, Gupto Uddan and Robinson Crusoe to be read. Fun segments such as quiz, puzzle and treasure hunt based on these books were conducted. These activities engaged the children in brainstorming and constructive tasks in order to make reading an entertaining and memorable experience. Anik Khan and Morshed Mishu were the judges of this event.

From 6 different schools, 42 children aged between 9-16 participated in the event. The participating schools were Lal Shobuj Foundation, Procheshta Foundation, Bidyanondo, Asroy, Leaping Boundaries and Shishuder Jonno Amra (Project Pothchola).

‘Bidyanondo’ became the winner of the event in the junior category while ‘Leaping Boundaries’ was the winner in the senior category. ‘Lal Shobuj Foundation’ was the first runner-up and ‘Asroy’ was the second runner-up in the junior category.

The goal of the event was to encourage the children to develop the habit of reading for pleasure as well as for the pursuit of knowledge. Those constructive activities were intended not only for entertainment but also to help the children connect with their inner potentiality. This event also created an opportunity for the children from different underprivileged backgrounds to interact with each other.

It is mentionable that ‘Project Pothchola’ started its journey in July, 2014, with an objective to work effectively for the mental growth of the children of sex-workers so that they can grow up as strong independent individuals. This project is operated in collaboration with Hazera Begum from “Shishuder Jonno Amra” foundation, who has been taking care of a group of children from July, 2010. ‘Project Pothchola’ also wants to inspire the kids to develop a reading habit which will help them to become a better human being in the near future.
