GOPALGANJ: Students of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Gopalganj went on hunger strike from Monday morning and they also continued their strikes.

The agitating students are demanding punishment for alleged sexual harassment of two female students by Akkas Ali, chairman of the CSE department, in January.

Besides this, they also launched a mass signature campaign to press home their demand.

In February of this year, two female students of CSE department submitted a complain of sexual harassment to university authority against Akkas Ali but the authority not take any punishment step against Akkas Ali yet.

And for this reason, on Sunday around 500 students of the university brought out demonstration on the campus along with banners and placards against the teacher.

After the demonstration, the authorities immediately suspended the teacher temporarily and also formed a four member probe committee to investigate the incident on Sunday. The authorities also ordered to probe committee to submit report within five working days.

But on Monday, hundreds of students of the department go on a hunger strike, demanding permanent suspension of that alleged teacher.

Denying the accusations, Akkas Ali said the allegations are false and those were made as a conspiracy against him.
