27 Malaysia-bound Rohingyas rescued in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives rescued 27 Rohingyas while being trafficked to Malaysia through waterway from Teknaf upazila in the district on Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

The rescued persons include eight children, 16 women and three men.

They were residents of different Rohingya camps at Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas in the district.

Teknaf-2, BGB Acting Commanding Officer Sarkar Mohammad Mostafizur said on information, they conducted a drive in Khurer Mukh area of Shahparirdwip under the Teknaf upazila around 11:00pm on Tuesday.

A total of 14 Rohingyas including six children, seven women and a man were rescued from the spot where they gathered for being trafficked, he said.

Besides, another team of the BGB also rescued 13 Malaysia-bound Rohingyas including two children, nine women and two men from Moheshkhaliapara under the upazila around 5:00am on Wednesday, the BGB officer said.

Later, the rescued Rohingyas were sent back to their respective camps through concerned authorities, Mostafizur added.

Mentionable, the BGB-men rescued a good number of Malaysia-bound Rohingyas from different areas of the Teknaf upazila over the last couple of months.
