Nurul Haque Nur and a group of students on Tuesday night gathered outside the Dhaka University vice-chancellor’s residence in protest against an attack on the DUCSU vice-president and his supporters by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists at Salimullah Muslim Hall.
Earlier, the DUCSU VP was physically assaulted and confined allegedly by leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) while protesting against the assault of a student at Salimullah Muslim Hall.BCL leaders and workers also threw eggs at Nur when along with his supporters went to the hall in procession at afternoon.
Nur when he along with his followers and general students went to SM Hall to meet its provost to protest against torture and harassment of a student of the same hall, Farid Hasan, who was beaten up allegedly by some BCL men on Monday night for contesting as an independent general secretary aspirant in the election to Salimullah Muslim Hall unit students’ council.
The BCL men also assaulted some female agitators including Samsunnahar Hall Union vice president (VP) Seikh Tasnim Afroz Imi at that time.
During the scuffle, Nur was cordoned off by BCL men on the hall premises from 7:00pm to 8:30 pm and later was slapped by hall union VP Kamal Hossain.
Meanwhile, hall Provost Dr Md. Mahbubul Alam Joarder told the correspondent that no one did confine VP Nurul Hoque.
The assaulted aspirant Farid, a post-graduate student of the university’s Urdu Department, was forced to pull out from the election race facing threat allegedly by members of BCL, he claimed.On Monday, several members of the ruling party’s student wing led by Wasif Hasan Pias, vice-president of the hall unit, forcibly took Farid to the hall’s dining room around 11:30 pm from his room (No. 159), said the victim.
In presence of hall union general secretary Julius Caesar, hall unit Chhatra League President Tahsan Ahmed Rasel and expelled Chhatra League leader Mizanur Rahman Pikul, Mehedi Hasan Taposh, hall unit general secretary of Chhatra League, started to beat him brutally, Farid claimed.
