TOKYO: Tokyo stocks closed flat Tuesday as earlier gains were erased on profit-taking after the Nikkei added more than 200 points on buying backed by solid U.S. and Chinese economic data.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 3.72 points, or 0.02 percent, from Monday to close the day at 21,505.31.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 4.12 points, or 0.25 percent, to finish at 1,611.69, reports Xinhua.

Real estate and retail issues comprised those that declined the most, while notable gainers were led by mining and nonferrous metal-linked issues by the close of play.
