Father, daughter killed in road accident

CHATTOGRAM: Three persons including a father and his minor daughter were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in the district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Aziz, 50, his daughter Afisa, 3, of Kodala area under Rangunia upazila, and Amir Hossain, 30, son of Ziaul Hossain, of Maliyara area under Patiya upazila in the district.

The injured were deceased Aziz’s wife Tahera Begum and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Kanchan Das.

Sources said Aziz and his daughter were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a ‘Pajero’ jeep of Bandarban’s Lama Upazila Vice Chairman at Rangunia upazila in the morning.

The accident took place at around 10:00 am when Kaptai-bound ‘Pajero’ jeep collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw carrying Aziz and his family members in front of Selima Quader Degree College in Shantirhat area.

The accident left four persons including Aziz and his daughter injured critically, they said.

The injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where physicians declared Aziz and his daughter dead, said Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Alauddin Talukdar of the hospital police outpost.

On the other hand, bicyclist Amir Hossain was killed in another road accident at Karnaphuli upazila in the district in the afternoon.

Sources said the accident occurred around 1:00pm when a speedy passenger bus knocked the bicycle of Amir while he was crossing an intersection in Karnaphuli Bazar area.

The accident left the youth injured and he was rushed to the CMCH where doctors declared him dead, ASI Alauddin added.
