BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir protested the arrest of the party’s central committee member Tasvir Ul Islam also one of the owners of Bannani FR tower.

In a written statement on Sunday, Mirza Fakhrul said “Tasvir Ul Islam has been arrested in a bid to divert government’s serious failure in the Banani FR tower fire incident to elsewhere.”

“Police arrest Tasvir in a bid to make the BNP guilty and the government wants to pretend to be innocent by shifting blame to other’s shoulder,” the BNP secretary general also said.

Terming the arrest of Tasvir Ul Islam, as ‘politically motivated,’ Mirza Fakhrul also demanded his immediate and unconditional release.

Earlier, police picked up Tasvir Ul Islam, also president of Kurigram district unit of BNP, from his Baridhara residence in the capital on Saturday night in a case filed over Thursday’s fire in the high-rise building that killed 26 people.
