Son held in extortion case filed by mother

CHATTOGRAM: Police arrested a middle-aged man after his mother filed an extortion case against him from the city’s Bahir Signal area on Friday.

The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Ilias, 45, a resident of Faridarparra under Chandgaon police station.

Sources said accused Ilias had been living with his wife and offspring separately at the Faridarparra.

Earlier, the arrestee used to run a pharmacy identifying himself as physician and journalist in the area. But, he is now an unemployed.

He used to demand money from his mother, who has been living with her another son, in the same area.

Ilias also demanded money from his mother and allegedly assaulted her in absence of family members a few days back, said the sources.

Later, mother Salama Khatun filed an extortion case against Ilias with the concerned police station.

Inspector (Investigation) Abdur Rahim of Chandgaon police station said they arrested Ilias from the Bahir Signal area following the case.
