Different professional bodies, educational institutions, and cultural organisations celebrated the country’s 49th Independence Day on Tuesday amid festivities and respect to martyrs.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) celebrated the day through different activities, rally and discussion.The university and hospital buildings were decorated and rich foods were distributed among patients marking the day.
Professor Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, vice-chancellor of the university, along with other teachers, doctors, nurses and other staffs hoisted a national flag on the campus early in the morning. They paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by placing wreath at the mural of Bangabandhu.
BSMMU VC, pro-vice-chancellor (academic) Prof Dr Shahana Akhter Rahmans, pro-vice chancellor (administration) Prof Muhammad Rafiqul Alam, treasurer Prof ABM Abdul Hannan, proctor Prof Prof Syed Mozaffor Ahmed, teachers association general secretary Prof Dr Md Zillur Rahman Bhuiyan, hospital’s director Brig Gen AK Mahbubul Hoque, and others were also present on the occasion.
Later, they placed floral wreaths at National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kanak Kanti Barua said the month of March is very important for Bangladesh because of the country’s Independence and Bangabandhu’s birth. “We will have to work together under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to implement golden Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation,” he added.
Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) celebrated the day through various events on its campus in the capital.The programmes included special prayers for eternal peace of souls of the martyrs, and peace and prosperity of the country and its people. Besides, two documentaries on liberation war and martyrs were screened.
BUP vice-chancellor Maj Gen Md Emdad-Ul-Bari, teachers, students and staffs were present on the occasion.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) observed the day amid festivities and respect to martyrs.
Vice-chancellor Prof Giashuddin Miah along with teachers and others placed floral wreath at the Bangabandhu’s mural on the campus.
The Institution of Diploma Engineers (IDEB), Bangladesh celebrated the day by placing wreath at National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar.
Meanwhile, Jahangirnagar University, Jagannath University, Rajshahi University, Chattogram University, Islamic University in Kushtia, Khulna University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet, and Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur celebrated the day.
