Bangladesh Under-23 National Football Team were defeated by Palestine in a 1-0 goal affair during their group-stage encounter of AFC Under-23 Championship 2020 Qualifiers at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Bahrain on Sunday.
Though Bangladesh exceeded the expectations with their performance, it was not enough to down a much superior Palestine as their forward Hani Abdullah scored the decider. It was a goal worth conceding for Bangladesh as Palestine took the lead on the 23rd minute of the match with a sensational long hauler from Hani Abdullah from the centre-line. Palestine midfielder Oday Ibrahim flicked the ball back to Hani who evaded Bangladesh mid-fielder Masuk Miah Zoni and took the bulleting shot to Bangladesh post. Bangladesh goalie Pappu Hossain dived to his right but only managed to touch the ball.
On the 70th minute of the match, Bangladesh couldn’t restore parity despite a brilliant opportunity as busy forward Motin Miah’ counter-attack from left wing was stopped by Palestine defenders as Motin successfully lured the goalie moments earlier. In a phenomenal example of fast football, Bangladesh midfielder Mahbubur Rahman sent the ball through to Motin who zoomed past defenders and lured the goalie but his shot was cleared by a Palestinian defender.
