A popular saying about Bangladeshi people is that ‘mache-vate bangali’. But in most of the Bangladeshi restaurants, you can’t find any fish dish except fish curry. Varieties of chicken and beef dishes are most commonly found in Bangladeshi restaurants. The reason behind this is that most Bengali people think fish can be eaten only as curry. But this is a complete misconception. Different types of delicious dishes can be made with fish. There are about 260 freshwater fish species and 475 marine fish species available in Bangladesh. Since different species of fish are available in Bangladesh, diversity will also come in the taste.
Some fish dishes that can be served in the restaurants are- Fish Roll, Fish Ball, Fish Finger, Breaded Fish, Fish Burger, Smoked Fish etc.Why fishes are healthier than chicken and red meat? In general, red meats (beef, lamb) and broiler chicken have more saturated (bad) fat than fish. Saturated fats can raise blood cholesterol and make heart disease worse. Saturated fatty acids are less digestible than unsaturated fatty acids. The unsaturated fats in fish actually have health benefits. Fish provides us with omega-3 fats, minerals, and vitamins that chicken and red meat don’t have sufficient amounts of. Omega 3 is a compound the body needs but doesn’t produce naturally. Fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids which is an essential fat that our bodies need to help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and reduces inflammation. It can help reduce the risk of depression, arthritis, asthma, heart failure, coronary heart disease, cardiac arrest and the most common type of stroke (ischemic). Omega 3 also helps with the prevention of cell damage.
Moreover, eating Broiler chicken can cause various dangerous effects on our health. After careful testing of chickens from different brands, researchers found potentially harmful bacteria in 97% of the tested chicken samples. When we eat these broiler chickens, the antibiotics and other things injected into the birds for their better growth could possibly enter our bodies too.
Now-a-days, people have become more health conscious. If different fish items become available in restaurants, which are more healthier than broiler chicken and red meat, there will be high demand for those dishes. Besides, fish is available at low cost than red meat. So the restaurant owners should take proper initiative in this regard.
