Panel to probe Ducsu poll ‘irregularities’

Body formed to upgrade principles on CUCSU election

Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman has formed a seven-member probe panel to look into the allegations of irregularities in the elections to DU Central Student’s Union (Ducsu) and hall unions, reports UNB.

Sajeda Banu, a Supernumerary Professor ofthe Mathematics department,has been made chief of the committee while Assistant Proctor of the university Dr M Maksudur Rahman its member secretary, said a DU press release on Thursday.

The other members of the investigation committee are Dean of Biological Science faculty Dr Md Imdadul Hoque, provosts of Sir PJ Hartog International Hall Dr Md Mohiuddin, Chairman of Economics department Dr Shafique uz Zaman, Syndicate member Mohammad Humayun Kabir and Prof Dr Sharmin Rumi Alim of the of Nutrition and Food Science Institute.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within seven working days.

Staff Correspondent Chattogram reports, the authority of Chittagong University (CU) formed a five-member committee to upgrade principles to hold the election of Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU).

The committee was formed at a meeting chaired by CU Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury at his office on the university campus on Thursday.

The VC Professor Iftekhar said they took the decision for forming the committee following a meeting with the provosts and proctorial body.

He informed that the committee will upgrade the existing principles of CUCSU poll as time befitting one. 

The committee headed by Science faculty Dean Professor Dr Mohammad Safiul Alam also comprises Deputy Registrar Mohammad Yusuf as member secretary, Law faculty Dean ABM Abu Noman, Public Administration department Head Professor Dr Amir Muhammad Nasrullah and Assistant Proctor Liton Mitra as members.             

Mentionable, All Party Students’ Oikya defeated Islami Chhatra Shibir in the last CUCSU poll held on February 8 in 1990. 

Students of different public universities including the CU have been demanding for polls of central students’ union since the preparation of the DUCSU election held on March 11 this year after 28 years.

The CU authority took the decision to hold the CUCSU election in principle after a meeting with the provosts and proictorial body on Wednesday.
