CHATTOGRAM: At least 33 shops and dwelling houses were gutted in separate fire incidents at Fatikchhari and Chandanish upazilas in the district early on Monday.
Sources at the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) department, Chattogram said a fire broke out from an oven at a tea-stall in Shantirhat area under Bhujpur Police Station in Fatikchhari upazila around 2:20 am.It spread fast engulfing other adjoining shops including nine of furniture, two of flower, three garages and a tea-stall within a short time, they said.
Assistant Director Jasim Uddin of the FSCD said on receiving information, two fire fighting units from two stations rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame after around three hours’ efforts.
The damage in the fire was estimated at around Tk 5 lakh, he said. On the other hand, nine dwelling houses were gutted in a fire at Hazi Para under Chandanish upazila at around 12:00 midnight.
The fire gutted three tin-roofed houses and six shanties at that time. Damage in the fire that originated from an electrical short-circuit was estimated at around Tk 4 lakh, added Jasim.
