A suspected drug dealer was killed in a ‘gunfight between two groups of drug traders’ at Harabhanga Village in Gangni Upazila of Meherpur early on Monday.

The deceased, Budu Ali, 30, son of late Zoyad Ali, and a resident of Pirtola Village, was accused in several drugs-related cases.

Harendra Nath Sarker, officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station, said a team from Pirtola police camp rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots.

“Police rescued injured Budu and took him to Gangni Upazila Health Complex where doctors pronounced him dead,” Sarker said.

Police claimed that it was a shootout between two groups of drug traders.

One kilogram of hemp, 20 bottles of Phensedyl and a one-shooter gun were recovered from the site.
